Series 1A
Series 1A is a collection of minimalist objects, balancing objectivity, schematic clarity and inner logic, leading to a natural functionalism and geometric simplicity. Removing all representational imagery or similarity of subject, the objects are reduced to mathematics; rational, simple and clear, uncomplicated by personal, moral or philosophical boundaries.
Crucial within this equation is the consideration of the human proportion, which in functional objects, cannot be totally subordinate to other creative aspects.
This mathematic sobriety tends to neutrality – the search for a stylistic zero via elimination.
Series 1A is a response to this search for rational organisation within this strict framework of planar geometry. The pieces speak of ‘line’ in the various senses of the word: functional simplicity, effectiveness, rationalism, the geometric, the mathematical line that defines all. And the ‘line’ of approach based on rigorous logic, unswerving radicalism and practical intelligence that takes into account the human condition.
